Learn to Keep Long Hair Luscious

On average hair grows about ½ inch per month. So if you have long hair, you have quite a time investment in those lovely locks, and when you invest in something you try to take the best care of it you possibly can. To do this you will need to learn about the special needs of long hair and what you can do to keep your long hair healthy and luscious.

Trim It
Yes, you need to trim long hair regularly, every 6-8 weeks just like everyone else. As a matter of fact, it’s even more important for those with long hair to keep a regular trim schedule. The distance between the roots and tips makes it difficult for your natural oils to get all the way to the ends to nourish and protect the tips. This leaves hair vulnerable to breakage and split ends, and once an ends starts splitting it will continue to split right on up the hair shaft leaving you with an unhealthy-looking mane.

Eat, Drink, and Sleep Well
The health of every part of your body starts on the inside. If you want your hair to be healthy, strong, and shiny you have to feed it and keep it hydrated. Eating a well-balanced diet with plenty of healthy protein, eggs (a rich source of biotin), and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables will give your hair the nutrients it needs. Eight glasses of water a day will help keep your strands hydrated from the inside out, and getting plenty of sleep will promote overall general good health which will show everywhere, including your hair.

Brush and Style Gently
Wide toothed combs and boar bristle brushes are the tools you need to keep long tresses tangle-free. Combs and brushes with fine teeth and bristles create a lot of friction that can snag, break, or even yank out your hair as you brush. Never brush your hair when it’s wet because that is when it’s in its weakest state. And when you need to pull your hair back, avoid tight elastic bands that can cause breakage. Scrunchies are a long-haired girl’s best friend.

There are plenty more things that you can do to promote a luscious head of healthy long hair, but these are some of the most important.
